Starting in 2026, federal loans are more limited. The Grad PLUS program has been eliminated, so graduate students are now limited to Direct Unsubsidized Loans.

What changed: The Grad PLUS loan program has been eliminated for new borrowers after July 1, 2026. Graduate students are now limited to Direct Unsubsidized Loans with annual caps of $20,500 (graduate) or $50,000 (professional programs).
